On Tuesday, the WPIAL AAA Boys Golf Individual Championship was held at South Hills Country Club in Pittsburgh. The field of 36 players was narrowed down to 10 players that would advance to the PIAA Championships held in York, PA. There were three Panthers in the field of 36 and by the time it came down to the final 10, 2 Panthers had survived the deeply competitive field. Senior Chuck Tragesser finished tied for 5th with a 4-over 75 and senior Michael Wareham was close behind with a 7th place tie at 5-over 76. South Hills Country Club is a par 71 course.
Tragesser tallied 13 pars in his round supported by 1 birdie. Wareham carded 8 pars supported by 3 birdies. Tragesser played the front nine holes to a 1-over 37 while Wareham was able to finish strong and play the back nine holes to a 1-over 36. This will be Tragesser’s second consecutive trip to the State Championship tournament in his 3rd trip to the WPIAL Finals and Wareham will make his 1st trip to the State Tournament in his second trip to the WPIAL Finals.
This is the 6th consecutive year the Panthers will send a representative to the PIAA Tournament and the first year they will send more than one in the same year.. This year also marked the 5th consecutive year the Panthers have sent multiple players to the WPIAL Championship Finals.
A third player at the WPIAL Finals was junior Zach Abdallah who tied for 19th and shot an 81.
The Panthers head to Champion Lakes on Monday to participate in the first round of the WPIAL Team Championships. The Panthers need to be one of the top 3 teams at that site to move on to the WPIAL Team Championship Finals.
